So, after all this is said and done, we, the supporters, are still stuck in the same place we were the last few years! We can see no clear direction that the Boks are taking and all the promise that there is a plan seems to be just smoke up our asses. There is one game left for us before we play in the World Cup! Surely by now we should be seeing some shape and positiveness! We are clearly going to NZ unprepared and hoping that by some grace of God we can do something.
Now we can take a look at what happened in Durban last night as the most experienced Bok team to ever run on got beaten.
The Aussies traveled to Durban to take on the Springboks and take them on they did. They edged the new(old) look Boks out by 5 points after absorbing 40 minutes of pressure from the home side in the first half.
The Springboks got off to a great start, all of the Boks support breathed a sigh of relief as we started watching what we believed we were capable of all this time. The only problem was the Boks never converted pressure into points. The Aussies defended well and showed some good counter attacking but never got on the board in the first half. Frans Steyn in the 2nd minute and Butch James in the 15th minute were the only penalties scored by the home side in the first 40.
The Boks had a number of great opportunities to score tries with The Beast (59 running meters) and Jaque Fourie coming the closest. The Springboks seemed to run out of gas and will surely blame it on rustiness and lack of match practice. When will they be match fit? The way things look it will be just after the World Cup in time for our end of year tour.
Robbie Deans is a great coach, He has prepared the team for a 40-60minute onslaught and chip away at the lead and close the game out towards the end. Digby Ioane looked good for me and Anthony Faingaa when he came on as a sub. Kurtley Beale was counter attacking well and gaining good ground off miss directed kicks by the Boks, with 90 running meters yesterday.
Pat McCabe scored the games only 5 pointer in the 47th minute and that was the difference in the two teams. He had a solid game at 12 and made 11 tackles with no misses.
The stats were very even if not slightly weighted in the Boks favour on the penalty count but The Wallabies secured a well deserved win away from home.
Australia winning 14-9
Player of the Week: Kurtley Beale
